"New Features" notification will not go away

@tochi Thank you so much for that additional detailed information and the screenshots, this is most helpful! I will get this passed along to our team that is still actively working on fixing this bug in the app, and still appreciate your patience in the meantime. I’ll make sure to update this thread as things come along more!

Issue is finally resolved in v 3.29.0. No clear data is required. The red dot just went away with new version.

@tochi Thank you for getting back to me!! I was just about to post in here as well that this should be resolved, so glad to hear it has for you.

Neighbors, please let us know if you’re still running into this concern, but it should be resolved at this time!

This issue has resurfaced in v3.30.0 and is very frustrating to deal with. Seems that your development team has removed old new features from the UI, but forgot to remove the code which identifies them as new features. The number count starts at 9, drops to 8 once you enter and exit, then since there are only 7 new features it removes 7 notifications once you visit each. The two features that are enabled at the bottom of the list, would seem to be the culprits. One seems to clear automatically once we enter this section of the app and the other has no way of clearing.

Hi @mikemoewill, happy to chime in here. If you are still experiencing this concern, please try the following steps (Please note: it will sign you out of the Ring app and signing back in will be required):

  • Go to your phone’s settings
  • Navigate to the Apps section
  • Select the Ring app
  • Clear Data (might be in Storage section and should be Android specific, you may not see this on iOS)
  • Launch the Ring app
  • Go to the New Features
  • Visit all the feature listed **including the ones at the bottom (collapsed) **saying Feature Enabled. Re-visit the feature if possible, despite if it’s enabled or not.

These steps will reset the Ring app’s storage and should remove the red indicator from the Menu button and New Features menu item. Please let me know if this fixes it for you, and if not, please let me know what part of the steps get stuck/if you got to the end and the indicator is still there. Feel free to attach any screenshots that demonstrate this concern still occurring as well.

Issue still remains for me. None of the suggested fixes work. So annoying!

I just tried all the steps again, but no luck. The indicator stills shows more new features than I have available. I am also on a samsung Note20 Ultra. I tried several times to clear cache and storage, restart, click on each feature even the collapsed ones. Nothing works. Can someone go into my account and find this mysterious 13th new feature and deleted it or add it.

I see this issue is clearly an issue - has been for going on six months now. Is there a way to turn off the new features notifications? I don’t care to be notified about any of them. I’m sure it sounds ridiculous but I don’t even let my emails or texts get notifications because I hate the red numbers sitting on top of all my apps. It’s ridiculous to make it a thing as well as ridiculous not to be able to fix it.

I am also still having this issue despite following every suggestion (and going through the app to try anything else i can think of). Very frustrating.

Also, please unmark this thread as “solved” since it clearly is not.

The Ring app is getting worse and worse. It’s more and more unstable. The dashboard still will not load properly. Neighborhood is flakey. System was down half the day on Wednesday…

And now the Ring app FORCES you to click on obnoxious marketing for new Ring products and opens your Amazon app without your permission to serve up the new Ring products. I just saw that my Ring app was showing 12 new “features” and the only way to clear the stupid red dot for new “features” is to click on each and every single one of the 12 new products by forcing open the Amazon app to the new product. WTF?!

There is no option to opt put of this OBNOXIOUS FORCED MARKETING!!! I had been somewhat contemplating buying new Ring products. But with each new “improvement” it’s clear that Ring/Amazon really don’t care about security. It’s just a huge marketing tool to push out and sell more products that having been getting technically worse and worse.

It’s gotten even worse!

I just saw in my Ring app that the red for new “features” was back. When I went to look to see what was new, Ring is now forcing upon us new products. It was showing that there were 12 new “features” that were really 12 new Ring products. And the only way to clear the red dot for each of these 12 new products is to click on the product, which forces open your Amazon app Ring product posting WITHOUT YOUR PERMISSION!!

There is no other way to clear the red dots other than being served up the Ring product on Amazon! And I see no way to opt out of this.

After the tracking and sharing of our data debacle earlier this year, Ring had promised us that they were working to protect our privacy and data. They’ve offered nothing along those lines.

But instead they’ve been working on ways to harvest and exploit our data and our business relationship with them. The Ring app has gotten worse and worse and more unstable. The products are getting worse and worse, and they are pushing out new products that seem to be poorly tested. And existing products seem to be getting buggier and buggier. They don’t seem to care about our security, but are focused on exploiting their relationship with us.

Completely agree. AND … where is the ‘Ring Contact’ email to complain? Under iMac OS the Ring app will not shutdown properly - ever. Have to ‘Force Quit’ each time. Worse than Verizon?? Maybe.

Back at the beginning of the year when there was the discovery that Ring was sharing our data without our permission with the likes of Facebook and Google, Ring finally released a statement that they were committed to building out ways for us to opt out. They said that that would occur this summer. Crickets…

Apparently instead what they’ve been spending their summer on is developing ways to make the app worse and more unstable. But apparently prioritizing new ways to exploit our information. Every time you look at something in Amazon, Amazon logs that and then uses that to serve up to you other products. So the new app “feature” serves our information on a silver platter to Amazon. Not that Amazon probably didn’t already have access to it if they wanted it. But this is really blatant…

Agreed that the Ring App has gotten really unstable. On Android as well, the dashboard will not load properly. You have to force shutdown, and open it up immediately. This delay is not only annoying but can be really stressful when you get a notification and you can’t get to the history to see what’s going on. If there is actually a crime being committed, that delay could have a big impact…

WTF. Now there’s 22 notifications. This is crazy. Fix this sh*t. We should not be forced to endure this nonsense due to some idiotic programmer’s error. Do you need freelancers? Come on, Amazon has enough engineers that can fix this simple problem or eliminate it all together.

That solution to fix/remove the red notification alert on my Android did not work. I have all the steps as described numerous times to no avail. Please advise.

Hey neighbors! I checked with my team on this for some additional troubleshooting suggestions. In order to clear the red dot on the New Features notification, you’ll need to entirely scroll through and click on every single item in the Apps and Features sub-menu and the Products and Accessories sub-menu. Also, try to force quit the app in between switching from the Apps and Features sub-menu and the Products and Accessories sub-menu. This should remove the red dot for you.

If the above steps don’t resolve this for you, please give our support team a call at one of the numbers available here. They can take a closer look into this concern for you. We’re taking additional steps to protect our team and help reduce the spread of COVID-19, so this has resulted in longer than normal wait times. If you are outside of the US, please read our response to COVID-19 here to see how to contact support.

I don’t mean to be rude, but you (or other support people) continue to tell us to do the same thing over and over but this does not solve the problem: "Look at all the new features and products over and over again, close the app, clear data and cache, reinstall, sign in, etc. etc. etc. These steps do not work. People have been telling Ring support that these “solutions” do not work and yet the same suggestions keep coming. I have called support about this issue, multiple times over a period of months. I have come to the conclusiong that the real problem is your upper management is determined to compel us to look at new products every time we open the app, the inability to get rid of the red dot seems to be by design, it’s not a bug. By turning the a security app into an incessant advertisement for new products, which is what is happening, RING is communicating loud and clear that respect for the customer’s privacy is of no concern, RING is simply going to keep putting new products in our face every day until we’re worn down and just give in and buy more stuff. I wish there were a higher ethic operating here. This problem has been ongoing through numerous versions, I assume that if RING wanted it fixed it would be.

Just spoke with support and they started with giving me the same run around. Then flat out said the icon is supposed to remain at 1 all the time, which didn’t make any sense. Luckily I have a iPhone I use for work and decided to install the app and go through all the steps they provide. Once I completed viewing everything on the iPhone app lo and behold, the notification disappeared. The rep was shocked, because he also has an Android phone with the same issue but thought it was normal.
So the simple fact is the Android engineering team has incorrectly hard coded the application with permanent notification, whereas the iPhone engineering team actually took the time to code their application correctly.
Support didn’t even want to supply me a support case and only stated that they would send a recommendation that the Android app is different from the iPhone app. So I am almost certain we will endure this problem for many iterations to come unless someone with pull can add this as a code bug to get it address.

Worked for me. Clicked on “What’s New”. Clicked on “Products & Accessories”.

There were 9 messages marked as new. I clicked on each of them. All 9 messages changed from new to “Viewed”. The red dot indicating new notifications disappeared.

@NPL What device are you on?
