morning "workflow"

we set up the sensors, motion detector, and alarm a few days ago. Every night and morning we have a little anxiety about whether or not we’ll remember to disarm the alarm when we let the dog out in the AM.

If we open a door without disarming in the morning, does it automatically setoff the siren or is there some sort of chirp or waiting period before the siren goes off?

If not, are there any ways to deal with the potential of a siren waking up our baby when we let out the dog in the AM?

Or do I just need to put up a reminder note for the morning so we don’t setoff the alarm?

You need to setup a delay on your door sensor.
Go here for how to do it.
https://support.ring.com/hc/en-us/articles/360030784072-Setting-Ring-Alarm-Entry-and-Exit-Delays

I did this (switched from 0s to 60s), waited a couple hours, and tried it out by opening the back door during ‘home’ armed mode. The alarm went off.

Do I have to wait a certain amount of time until the setting are updated?

The app appears to have saved the setting of 60s delay for both entry and exit.

Did you set the door sensor to Main door?
“To use Entry and Exit Delays, set the Contact Sensor Placement setting to Main Door. Next, customize each delay for any time between 0 seconds (no delay) and 180 seconds (3 minutes). Just make sure you have enough time to arm and disarm your Alarm.”

no, that was the problem. Thanks!

Awesome! Glad to hear it. Also, you can do the same thing with motion sensors by changing them to Entry way.

One issue is that we’d like it to be a louder type of chirp after it is triggered, but before it hits the “entry delay” or “exit delay”. In other words, if somebody breaks in at night while we’re sleeping, it’d take 60s before we’d hear it. Am I doing it wrong or are there any other solutions?

@olympicww,

I think using 60-seconds is way too long. It doesn’t take that much time to use the Keypad and traverse the distance between the door while entering/exiting (Keypad normally is placed in the vicinity of the door, so you can conveniently use the Keypad or easily see the alarm current status before exiting).

I have my Entry/Exit Delay set at 30-seconds (the current minimum that isn’t 0-delay). There are requests on the “Feature Request Board” to have Entry/Exit Delays added between 0 and 30 seconds, for quicker individuals. For me personally, I’m satisfied with 30-seconds as a fair trade-off for potential scenarios & situations.

I also have an additional Alarm Keypad on my bedroom night-stand. The volume on that keypad is on high, so I can easily hear the audible “Countdown with Beeping” during the 30-seconds if I forget to lock the door (I think the countdown/beeping is as loud as my alarm clock). It should awake me in the situation I don’t hear an intruder coming in that unlocked door, triggering that Contact Door sensor. But I think that is unlikely too, because of my family’s good habit of always locking the door, and I should hear something like the physical busting-in a steel-clad locked door. Almost every typical house entry door is either steel-clad or heavy wood (but I also realize some people have glass in their entry doors too).

The extra Keypad right there on the night-stand pad has the added benefit of the Police, Fire, and Medical Response team buttons within close reach (if you have the Professional Monitoring with Ring Protect Plan “Plus”), with the added “Panic Button” feature (pressing the “X” and “Check-Mark” keys simultaneously). But other people are content to just have their cellphones on their night-stand, to use the App’s red SOS button Panic feature.

There are several requests on the Feature Request Board to have Entry/Exit Delays added between 0 and 30 seconds for quicker individuals; and requests for louder chirps too like you want. Although there are several regular forum posts about this, the Feature Request Board forum is where Ring Team look to see what people might want. And the more “Thumbs Up” Kudo votes they see there will better get their attention. You should add your Kudo vote, if you like the requesting author’s idea, to help get the attention of the Ring Teams on the links below:

But in my opinion, using 30-seconds (not 60) and having a good habit of locking your doors, should cover most situations.

I hope this information is helpful to you.

Oh @olympicww,

I forgot to mention something else when I wrote,

“The extra Keypad right there on the night-stand pad has the added benefit of the Police, Fire, and Medical Response team buttons within close reach (if you have the Professional Monitoring with Ring Protect Plan “Plus”), with the added “Panic Button” feature (pressing the “X” and “Check-Mark” keys simultaneously). You could also consider purchasing a remote “Panic Button” instead of buying a Keypad OR purchasing a 1st Generation Keypad.

If your Alarm Base Station is a 2nd Generation, the 1st Generation Keypad is compatible and cheaper. But 1st Gen Keypads can be annoying if used in a bedroom, since the status light is always on (or just swap/relocate the 2nd Gen Keypad into the bedroom and use the 1st Gen Keypad for the entryway).

I just wanted to give you more complete options to consider. My intent is not overload you with so many choices. These are current prices, before your 10% Ring Protect Plan “Plus” discount:

Panic Button $34.99 (if you want to have a mobile button, in lieu of your phone):

Keypad (1st Gen) $29.99 (might not get full 10% off on already “Discounted Sale” item. Look when at check-out page):

Keypad (2nd Gen) $49.99 :
