Since you moved into a house that already had a Ring Alarm system physically installed, you probably do not have any of the Instruction Manuals for it. They can be downloaded free from the below links. It also depends whether you have the 1st Generation or 2nd Generation system (which can be easily determined, in most cases, just by their appearance). These manuals contain set up instructions that can help you:

For 1st Gen system:

For 2nd Gen system:

First, for setting up your entire Ring alarm system, it sounds like you have already downloaded the Ring App onto your smart-phone.

Then setup your Alarm Base Station because it is the center of your entire Ring Alarm security system. It can either be directly connected to your Wi-Fi router/modem by an Ethernet wire or by using wireless Wi-Fi (but not both at the same time).

Then all your sensors (Motion-sensors or Contact-sensors) will have to connect to the Base Station, by using your App and selecting “Set Up A Device”. One thing that sometimes confuses people . . . the Ring sensors Do Not use Wi-Fi to connect to your Base Station. Sensors connect to your Base Station using a “Z-Wave” radio frequency, which is different than Wi-Fi.

If you’ve done all of this, and it “keeps saying that it’s waiting for network connection”, that could caused by several different situations. The Z-Wave radio signal can’t reach all the way to your Base Station. Weak batteries in the sensors is a possibility (who knows how long those batteries have been in those sensors). Or the distance between where the sensor are installed is very far, and the previous owners utilized one or several “Ring Alarm Range Extenders” to relay the Z-Wave signals. Since these Alarm Range Extenders simply plug into an electrical wall-outlet (about halfway between the sensor and the base station) it might be possible that those Extenders were accidentally taken by the previous owner when they moved.

If you are still having difficulties, again you can post here, and you can find more additional help at:

or by calling Ring phone numbers:

Good Luck and welcome to the Community of Ring Owners! I hope this helped
