Help with guests

How do guests silence a smoke alarm when we are not around? We had someone who triggered the smoke alarm cooking and we didn’t see the notices until an hour later…

Hi @michaewh ,

Are you referring to a smoke-alarm-sensor triggering your Ring Alarm system, such as the "First Alert Z-Wave Smoke/CO Alarm ", and it activated your Ring Alarm system?

If you were in “Self Monitoring” alarm (not “Professional Monitoring”), you should have still received a ‘push’ text Notification to your phone App. With Professional Monitoring, you would have additionally received a telephone call from the monitors when your Smoke detector activated your Ring Alarm system.

If indeed your Ring Alarm system got activated by the Smoke, the Smoke/CO alarm will trigger you Alarm Base Station to sound in all three modes (Disarm, Home, & Away). In the future you could assign a temporary “Guest User” code, that would enable guests to Disarm the alarm system and siren using the Keypad, but ONLY IF YOU ARE USING " Self Monitoring." Main menu > Control Center > Shared Users > select your location to manage > Tap “Plus Sign” > Add Guest User > Enter a Guest User Name & Create access code. You can later delete this Guest User or change the code.

You should also set up for the alarm to send either/or an email and/or a ‘push’ text notification to your phone App, by toggling each alert to enable. Main menu > Settings > Alarm Alerts > toggle the alerts you desire, and then “Save.”

If you are utilizing Ring’s " Professional Monitoring" for your alarm system, the “Guest User” code would not work. You can read in the link below the procedures with the Ring Monitors:

  • Smoke alarm Response Plan: When your Smoke alarm sounds in your home, a signal requesting fire is sent. The monitoring center will attempt to contact your first emergency contact. If no one answers, the monitoring center will request fire dispatch. Then, the monitoring center will attempt to call the emergency contacts to notify them that the fire department has been dispatched.
  • Canceling the Smoke Alarm:** **You can cancel a Smoke alarm by answering the first monitoring center call. It cannot be canceled within the app.
  • CO Alarm Response Plan: When a Carbon Monoxide alarm sounds in your home, a CO signal is sent. The Monitoring Center will immediately request a fire response, and then call your emergency contacts to inform them that the fire department has been dispatched.
  • CO Alarms cannot be canceled. Signals from life safety devices cannot be canceled.
