Glass Break Sensors

My plan is to get Ring Retrofit Alarm kit, with a non-supervised bridge and some wireless sensors. I already need the retrofit kit to hook up to my leak detection system, so that part is not an incremental expense. A simple two channel (4 device) bridge can be found for $25 on ebay or less then $40 from major sites (not a significant addition compared to the glass break sensor itself). This will let me get the glass break sensors I want and actually hook them up to the alarm.

Not ideal, but until Ring has a supported glass break sensor, it will work.

Now the only question I need to figure out is what they mean by not for use with smoke/co alarms on the retrofit kit. I think what they mean is that I need the appropriate relay to turn the wiring for these into an appropriate N/O or N/C signal (which I have) as opposed to the alarm doesn’t support connections this way. But this is probably for a different thread.

Let your “Thumbs Up” be seen as your vote for Glass Break Sensors. Ring Teams notice Feature Requests with higher Thumbs Up numbers, and then are more likely to concern the request. There are other Glass Break Sensor Requests on the Feature Board. Across other topic areas (just not here in the Feature Board topic area) there are also many that I’ve probably missed a few links. But if you think this “Glass Break Sensor” device would be nice to have, click on the links below and then click the Thumbs Up Icon.

I chose Ring because it has no microphones (Gen 1–I don’t know about now.) Alexa is exactly the kind of surveillence equipment I can live without.

First, I agree the glass break sensor is a must. It’s my main vulnerability for home security. I installed a Wink Hub 2 with door sensors, Ring cameras and z wave lights and alarms. The great thing with the wink hub is you create “robots”. For instance, one robot is set up so that any motion recognized with my Ring camera in my back porch between 11pm and 6 am turns all my outside lights on. Another robot controls my back doors. If a door opens between 11pm and 6 am then all my interior lights that I’ve connected, bedroom, living room and family room turn on and a z wave alarm goes off. But I have nothing if a window is broken.

After this morning when my home was burglarized I wish this product was available. My basement window was kicked in from the outside for the suspect to enter. Luckily when he broke the lock and opened the door to come up our basement stairs he triggered the alarm which woke us up. We have the glass break set up with alexa but we don’t have alexa in the basement where we are doing construction. The ring system did alert us and could have saved our lives today! This type of sensor would be an added bonus.

The glass break on Alexa wouldn’t have done anything anyway. It just notifies your phone. It does not set off your alarm or call the police. It is just a “dumb” device that really does nothing. I’m so glad you are safe and OK!! If Ring had a real glass break sensor the alarm would have sounded and police would be notified when they broke the glass, triggering it before they got into your house. Not having your Alexa down there wouldn’t have done anything for you.

First off, do not lie to your customers! This is not a glass break sensor. It does not work well as a glass break sensor. It does not trigger the alarm. It does not notify the police. It is not even integrated into the alarm. This is promoting your product the wrong way and you will wind up in a costly lawsuit.

I was told you were coming out with a glass break sensor last summer! The lack of response from Ring along with the unintelligent replies and lack of listening to customers is very concerning. One can assume they are never coming out with it. Two years have past, still nothing.

I’m unsure of where you heard about a Glass Break sensor coming this summer, @micron but that is not the case. At this time, I do not have any additional information more than what we have already provided. We will certainly keep you updated with any information from the team. Thanks

Your company has NOT performed to any reasonable expectation in creating such

a simple device as a glass breakage sensor.

I have sent my RING alarm system into the garbage where it belongs.

I now have a competing product that functions.

Given the number of people requesting this and the length of time that this is taking, one can only assume that this is not a priority.

The 1st gen system should have been completed before launching a 2nd (incomplete) system. The entire system is deficient without glass break sensors and is considered inadequate by many insurance companies.

Recommending an Echo Dot or Alexa Guard isn’t even a bandaid solution as neither provides any actual security / alarm notification.

It seems as though Ring / Amazon is more concerned with surveilling their customers than providing solutions.

My advice, 1st gen contact sensors are on sale right now, buy those and put them on the glass. That’s what I’ve done

Can you elaborate on how to make this work?

I am curious if you have tried to hook up a glass break sensor. Did it work?

Add me to the large group of customers who need an official Ring glass break sensor that will trigger a call to the police. It boggles my mind that Ring will be releasing a camera drone next year, but not an industry-standard glass break sensor…

We need an official glass break sensor, please. It is suprising and also distressing that Ring doesn’t have one of these when they have accessories and add-ons for pretty much everything else. Lots of homes with existing Ring systems are vulnerable.

So, no glass break yet? I’m holding off on getting the ring alarm because there is no glass break it don’t have a glass break feature. I have a sliding glass door and window on my other door.

Just purchased a Ring system and camer here in anticipation of purchasing a glass break sensor and was really surprised/disappointed there no such device…COnsidering returning as this a vital piece to an alarm system.

+1,please add a glass break sensor.

No glass breaker sensor is a deal breaker for me as well. I really don’t want to buy 12 contact sensors.

Please please please add glass break sensors. How is it possible these still haven’t been released.

Glass breaks are not a replacement for a contact sensor. Ideally one would have a glass break in each room plus all windows protected by contact sensor.
