Disable keypad's "full battery" indicator LED light

Re: Disable keypad's "full battery" indicator LED light

It seems to me that the best alternative to dimming (and maybe an even better outcome than dimming alone) would be to

1. Illuminate the green lamp indicating that the battery is charged [or charging] and working correctly ONLY when the keypad is illuminated. So it would only illuminate when the keypad is being operated.

2. Illuminate warnings at all other times that the battery indicator would otherwise be illuminated.  So, even if the keypad was not being used, it would display battery warnings.

For me personally, it seems that would be ideal.

Yes please add the option to turn the battery full led on or off.

It's not necessarily just a matter of firmware, there has to be controlling circuitry in place to dim an LED. Since there seems to be only two states for the battery LED (off and on), there may only be on-off switching circuitry in place for the firmware to control. If that's the case, it will take a HARDWARE upgrade to be able to control the brightness of that LED.

(the circuitry providing this functionality must have already been in place for the buttons, which I suppose are a separate assembly part)

There are more than two states to this LED, it has multi color capability.

Nobody is asking for a brightness slider on this, but simply the ability to turn the LED off.

i have merely compared to the fact that ring implemented a brightness slider to control the alarm status LED which seemingly nobody asked for, and did so months ago.

These keypads are perfectly capable of an update to allow turning this LED off,

ring’s customer service & support is just abismal... I used to recommend ring line of products until a few months of ownership. Now I’ll never let anyone I know come within 10 feet of ring products, better customer support and action taken to fix things or implement new features with competitors’ systems like my new 8ch NVR and PIR sensing cameras :-)

We really need this enhancement/feature. Kind of embarrassing they you can dim all the others to barely visible, but this single battery status LED is bright enough to illuminate my bedroom. If no dimming capability, than please consider allowing it to be disabled altogether.

How much information can a single LED provide anyways? Firstly, you have to be standing there in front of it to see that it’s on; secondly, if it were blinking I would open up the app to figure out what’s wrong. However, the app would alert you right away that something is awry, and it can do it from anywhere, and it can provide detailed information. The whole premise of Ring is that you don’t have to wait around to observe an LED indicator in order to know something is wrong… You are always connected to it!

I just don’t see the value of the constant-on green LED. Mine is covered with black electrical tape, and still green light is radiating out from other parts of the enclosure.

Agreed. I’m at the point to suggest anyone wanting this disabled bombard ring’s phone support voicing are concerns. It’s an absurd waste of energy, not to mention why it’s brighter than my actual night light and can light an entire room.

Re: Disable keypad's "full battery" indicator LED light

Sorry, Ring but this issue is embarrassing. I purchased the kit with the 2 key pads and 3 door/window sensors and just installed it w/o knowing about this problem. Well, today I will be putting everything back in the box and return it to Best Buy because of this issue. I can’t sleep with that light in my bedroom and I do want a keypad in the room - that’s the reason I got the kit with the 2 key pads. I may purchase it after this issue gets fixed. What a shame :-(

Awesome to hear, I just purchased the 2 keypad kit and ran into this.  Is there an ETA, seems like this was reported quite awhile ago....

Hey @SteveMat . At this time there is no ETA to give on Keypad Battery LEDs. We appreciate everyones' patience while our team works on improving this experience.

Re: Disable keypad's "full battery" indicator LED light

The question is, are they really working on it? When we keep getting this same update for an extended period of time however, we don’t see any progress one would wonder is anyone actually still working on it.
