Alarm Feature Request

Hi neighbors! At Ring, we take feedback and feature request very seriously. That's why we're creating this special post, where you can share any wish list items you'd like to go with your current Ring device. We'll keep this post pinned to the top of the Alarm board so you can easily access it.  Be sure to do a quick search and see if your item is already on the list to avoid duplicates. If it is, go ahead and give it a 'kudo' so we know that is what you want too!

Please note, that anything you disclose to us by commenting on this post will be the property of Ring. Please see our Terms of Service for more information. We look forward to hearing your feature requests!

Re: Alarm Feature Request

To better utilize the Stick Up Camera indoors,  I want the Stick Up cam to enable motion detection/recording when the Ring Alarm is in Away/Armed mode.

Re: Alarm Feature Request

1) The ability to turn on and off "arming" sounds and/or add a third mode (home...away...night). We have "home" set to arm immediatly right now so we can arm it and the sound doesnt wake anyone sleeping, however, when we leave and the kids are home sleeping, we cannot arm from the panel and need to do it remotly.

2) Integration with Smart Things...I want to be able to have lights turn on in the event of an alarm, things turn off for smoke/CO alarms etc.

Converted from Iris. Currently have a ring alarm, doorbell, wired spotlight cam, and waiting on the new ring lighting!

Re: Alarm Feature Request

I had ADT before ring and the keypad would always show the status of the alarm system and whether or not it was armed. When you live in a hose with multiple people it’s important to know what the status is. With the ring keypad, however, no lights are visible so I can’t tell whether or not I can open a door without triggering the alarm. This is very inconvenient. Also with ADT when I opened a door I could immediately tell from the continuous beep from the keypad that I had better enter my code or the alarm would sound. I would also simultaneously know this from my other keypads. With the ring keypad however there is no sound. Third with ADT when the alarm was not armed and somebody opened the door all the keypads would make an alert beep. Not so with Ring alarm. Only the base station gives the alert. This is no good if I am upstairs and the base station is downstairs. I had hoped that the upstairs ring chime would have sisnaled the alerts but no. Neither does the remote siren. I don’t understand in this day and age why all these features are not programmable by the user? The lack of these lights, and alerts makes the Ring alarm system not as good as the ADT system. Please change this. I will be submitting this review to Amazon and other sites. Very disappointed.

Hmm, something sounds a bit off here @jst . Mind giving our support team a call at 800-656-1918 as something doesn't seem right..

Re: Alarm Feature Request

Would be nice.

Keypads:

1. Numbers are next to the buttons. Would be nice to have the numbers on the buttons or, at least, have the buttons be rimmed in a different color or actually a different color than white.

2. Home and Away icons are nearly identical and kind of small. Would be nice to have very different icons that are more clearly visible.

3. The voice is very low and hard to hear. Would be nice to have it louder.

4. Sticky back cradle would prevent more screws in walls.

Motion Sensors:

1. The sticky strips really do take off paint and what looks like the top layer of drywall. It's really light, seems as if 3M removables would work.

2. It is difficult to find the right place for these. Would be nice to use removables here as well. We ended up moving these around several times before finally affixing them to the wall with screws. Lots of excess holes and patchwork.

Base Station:

1. The power cord has a notch but the ethernet cable does not. Ended up having to order a flat cable because a regular round one did not work when placing on a wall.

Instructions:

1. Would be nice to have more detailed instructions along with an insert that shows the details of the Keypad to put up next on the wall so everyone can learn.  Still confused about bypassing sensors on the keypad itself (easy on the app) and need to look that up.

Thanks!

Re: Alarm Feature Request

It’s seems that I was incorrect on some items. One that there was no sound when door was opened in away mode. There is. As to no lights indicating the status of the alarm is partially incorrect. It seems that there is both a motion and light sensor controlling the lights on the keypad. If you are too far away no lights appear. On that point I am correct. If you are moving nearby the unit the alarm status light will turn on and so will the keypad but only if there is low light or you use your hand to obstruct it. So lights will turn on if you are close and in non Battery saving mode. None the less having a alarm status light on all the time would be a desirable selectable feature as far as I am concerned.

Re: Alarm Feature Request

Hello,

I would love to use a door sensor for my mailbox so I can get an alert when the mail has been delivered.  The current sensor does reach with the use of the range extender included with the alarm kit and alerts occur when I test the two parts of the sensor inside the mailbox.  It even works if I have the wider side (has the battery) mounted to the mailbox, but the smaller magnetic side is not mounted.  As soon as I attach the magnetic side to the metal mailbox the sensor quits working.  It would be great to include a specific sensor for mailboxes or a simple kit to allow it to work when mounted on metal.

Thanks in advance for considering this,

Chris

Re: Alarm Feature Request

I would love if the alarm had an option to automatically unlock my deadbolt when arming away mode because I’m about to walk out the door.

With multiple kepads/locks, a front door keypad could be linked to the front lock and the back door keypad linked to the back door lock.

Re: Alarm Feature Request

Keypads:

  1. Louder volume - they're very quiet even at max
  2. Allow sensor chirps from the keypads in addition to the base
  3. When constantly powered (or activated by button press/proximity sensor when on battery), a status light indicating the system isn't ready to arm. Either light up the "!" icon, or make the light ring glow a different color (amber or blue?) to indicate it isn't ready to arm
  4. When continously powered, the keypad should act as a node on the Z-wave network, like other powered Z-wave devices do
  5. The armed light glowing red is OK, but it would be nice if the light ring glowed red when armed as well
  6. Duress PIN codes
  7. Allow 4-8 digit pins, which is the range that most of the compatible smart locks support—this 4 digit limits you to only 4 digits on the lock as well if you want to use with the Alarm
  8. Silent armimg/disarming option so you don't have to wake the house when leaving before everyone else wakes up

Base Station:

  1. Change the light ring color to red when armed and yellow to indicate a problem (the tiny network and power lights are hard to see when mounted on a wall)
  2. Act as a Chime for Ring Doorbell devices/Cameras

General:

  1. More advanced diagnostics for the Z-wave network, like for example the network map (what's using what as a node) to identify problems easier and better determine need and placement of range extenders
  2. Be able to issue a HEAL command to the Z-wave network without having to call support for it
  3. Activate ZIGBEE & Homekit support, please!
  4. More integration options, and better use of the current integration options
  5. Linked cameras (this applies to the Alarm and other devices too): create a category for these linked events, as having them appear as Live View events poses problems, especially when a linked device triggers a doorbell to record, and you can't ring the Ring doorbell button until the recording ends. This can cause missed visitors. Put these events in their own category so the Alarm (or smart lighting) triggering the Ring Doorbells doesn't prevent visitors from pressing the button.
  6. Temporary disarm: either via a button in the app, or with a keypad code (like enter your code and press the check mark twice or something) which disarms your system for 2 minutes (or user-configurable would be better–ranging 30 sec to 5 min maybe) and automatically re-arms. This is a handy feature many alarms support that allows for letting out the dog or receiving a package or something without having to entirely disarm the system. Edit 3Jul19:  This should also include a countdown beep sequence starting at 30 seconds increasing in speed to a constant beep with 10 seconds left, so you close the door before it re-arms.

I know I've got more, which I will add to this post as I remember them (assuming it lets me edit perpetually, and not just for a few hours/days like some platforms).
