Chime not connecting to wifi

I just read that not all Ring products will operate on 5Ghz wireless. I’ve tried 2 with no luck. My wirless is 5Ghz. I later read that the chime needs 2.4Ghz to connect and operate.

Hey neighbors! Our newest Chime Pro can connect to both 5 Ghz and 2.4 Ghz networks. If you have our 1st gen Chime Pro, it will only be able to connect to 2.4 Ghz networks. If your Chime Pro is not connecting to your wifi network, try bring the Chime Pro closer to your router, or even test a standard guest network on your router. I hope this helps!

I’ve been trying the whole day to connect the Chime to the network and after I read this post I tried it and it worked like magic. Thanks a lot!!!

Ty ty ty! I was losing my freaking mind!

Thank you, I think selecting “no” to network was the fix I needed.

I also have a problem connecting the chime to wifi. Not been able to use it for months, spent hours trying everything in this thread I could find, to no avail. I get to where I put the password in and at that point the chime starts to flash faster, not slow as the app suggests and finally comes up with “Hmm, something went wrong”. I wonder if it may be the fact that my phone connected 5ghz and chime at 2.4ghz. Looks like there is no solution for me. I’m sure it was working before I needed to change my sky router. The video dorbell pro and an external camera working fine. thought of getting a new chime, but what if I can’t connect that either. As said, tried all tricks these 4 pages offered. Glad it worked for some.

I connected and used Ring chime for over a year now with no issues. Yesterday I noticed the Ring logo blinking slowly. I tried to reconnect the device via the app, which didnt work. I thought removing and adding the device as ‘fresh install’ would do the trick, but this didn’t work.

During set up, the blue light flashes slowly, and when the ring app connects after selecting WIFI, it flashes quickly for about 15 seconds then goes back to flashing slowly and soon after the phone displays ‘Hmm, something went wrong, device doesnt want to connect to the internet’. I followed all the instructions on these 4 pages to no avail (ensured WIFI is on 2.4GHz, during set up selecting ‘no’ for connecting to previous WIFI and selecting 2.4GHz WIFI and entering password carefully, WIFI does not have special characters, location on, factory reset of chime etc). I also tried adding the chime to WIFI hotspot on mobile phone and still nothing. Funnily enough the Ring doorbell 2 is connected and working absolutely fine.

Anything further I can try?

Hi Jernaid,

You have exactly discribed my problem with the Chime!

My Ring Doorbell2 works fine, it’s just that… chime that is not connecting, tried everything but the message comes up that it is not connecting to WiFi.

The d…n thing is less that a metre away from myTelstra Gen2 Smart Router!!

I’ve even had Amber from Support on the phone for ages trying to sort this thing out but got disconnected in the end.

By the way the chime and Doorbel worked fine for about 22months but now the chime is a problem.

I’m about to throw this thing out the window.

I also had issues with chime but got there in the end. I had set doorbell first obviously. When I started setting chime it basically knew my network and wanted to use that of which I guess it tries to use known password etc. This would fail in all 3 attempts I tried.
So, to fix it I essentially told it to search for networks instead of just my default one. Now when I clicked it, it then wanted my network password and hey presto it worked.

thanks a lot for sharing! I tried all the steps I have read and these steps works! Thank you!!!

I also have an chime. It have been working for about a year, but 2 days ago it was just flashing, app said it was offline. I tried to reconnect but it wont work. Tried «everything» it goes well unitl it is supposed to connect to wifi, it sees the wifi with strong signal. But refuses to connect. Tried to connect t another router aswell but does not connect to that either. Any suggestions?

Hi SHR1,

After being on the call to the tech support team for an hour, going through all the troubleshooting steps I already did myself again with the rep, it turns out the chime has become faulty. Ring are sending a replacement! They cannot tell me why the chime has become faulty…so I wonder how long the new one will take to break! I would advise for you to contact the support team if you wish to have a replacement device.

hi all just installed a ring doorbell 3 from one of the shopping channels it was an absolute breeze no problem whatsoever until i came to fitting the chime it took four hours of painstaking re set after re -set it would not connect i had my neighbour try do help as well as he as a unit as well until we found out the problem!!! its not having it closer to the hub or doorbell itself iits setting it up on an android phone!!! it just wont have it, clear everything down re -set it and set up on an ipad or i phone 5mins max straight through hope this helps and ring solve the problem with android phones

I am ready to send the Chime extender back. Nothing works even got a professional installer to try this. Nada, Zilch and no reply from Ring help.

Thank you Wetty,

Our friendly local policeman came in, followed your instructions and I am now set up. there are some rewards of living in small community where neighbours help each other.

Kind thoughts

I found a solution by my own trial and error.

When the App prompts you to use the WiFi in it’s memory, decline it.

You will then be taken to a page showing available WiFi Networks.

Selet your network and re-enter the network password.

Connected!!

Do not use the stored network in the app when setting up.

Decline the offer and re-select your network, and enter the network password again.

For me it ended up being Location not turned on in my phone during setup. Took talking to a tech for about 15 mins before that came up. Odd how it never asked for that during setup.

Thank you for your brilliant advice, no way could i get my chime to pair with my wi fi, after reading what you said about putting no in when showing your wifi id and then re entering your wi fi details plus wi fi password , it worked perfectly . Thank you for your advice .
