Security Cam audio not transmitting to app

We just installed the hard wired floodlight security cam and everything seems to be working except the audio. I was able to locate and adjust the volume controls. My husband went outside and could hear me great, but I could not hear a word he was saying. Mic and speaker were both turned on. I can faintly hear the siren when we try it. Hubby tapped on the base of the unit and I could hear that as well. Is there something we need to adjust on the exterior mic within the unit outside?
