Hard wire Ring door 1, 2nd generation ,

Hello ,

I have a ring door bell 1,( 2nd generation)I want to hard wire it ,so I don’t have to keep charging the battery, can anyone recommend a good quality adapter/charger plug for me to install,

thanks in advance

Hey there, @busterruff55. The Video Doorbell (2nd Generation) can use the existing wires, or wires coming from an 8 to 24 VAC power supply, to provide a trickle charge to your Video Doorbell battery. A standard power supply rated for 8 to 24 VAC can be used.

Another option is our Solar Charger mount. I hope this helps!

Hi Marley ,

thanks for the reply ,do Ring sell these adapters ?

Good question, @busterruff55! We actually do offer a Plug-In Adapter on the accessories page at Ring.com. This Plug-In Adapter fits a standard UK outlet and runs two wires for connecting to your Video Doorbell. Although this adapter is designed for the Doorbell Pro, a battery powered Video Doorbell can be wired using this adapter as long as the resistor is put in place.

Check out this Community post where neighbors discuss doing this, including images/ instructions from Chelsea.

I have a specific ring doorbell adaptor from Amazon as the hard wiring that Ring suggested did not work, the specific ring doorbell adaptor is sending power to the ring backplate but the ring health still indicates battery power, surely it should be charging the ring doorbell from the mains?

Hi @Johnboy518. Stepping in for Marley here. If you are using a 3rd party product to power your Ring Video Doorbell, it may not work properly as we do not support 3rd party devices with our Ring products. With this in mind, it could be why you are seeing the status you are seeing. If you have questions about proper wiring setup, out support team is full of experts that can help with this.
