Customize the Dashboard

Hello all,

Is there a way to set up the dashboard the way you want to see what is going on.

Now I have the Neighbors, History, Front Door lock,

Is there a way to change those to what I want IE lights, Sensors, and so on.

Thanks

Tom

Yes  @bigtwinharley2011 , if you are referring to the relative new “Shortcuts” feature on the Dashboard.

While on your main Dashboard, swipe left on the Shortcuts until you see the the “Edit” icon on the far right, and click on “Edit.” Then on this Edit screen, you can now modify which Shortcuts you want to be displayed (Visible Shortcuts) or those shortcuts that you don’t want displayed (Hidden Shortcuts) on your dashboard. You can even change the order the shortcuts are displayed on the dashboard, by holding your finger on the far-right “=” icon, to then move each shortcut up or down (which will show up as left-to-right on your dashboard).

You stated, “I want IE lights, Sensors, and so on” , therefore you’ll want to add “Lights” and also “Alarm” (to get your sensors) to your Visible Shortcuts. Remember you may have to swipe left/right on these Dashboard shortcuts if you have more than three Visible Shortcuts.

I hope this helps you

Boone,

That dont work. After looking around all over. I chatted with Ring and there is no way to edit those 3 that Ring has set up. So I asked them to pass it along to the group to see if that can let the user put in what they want to see.

Well @bigtwinharley2011 , it does work , at least on my phone Ring app. So something must be different between you and me. I’m located in the USA and utilize an Android Samsung S-5 Smartphone.

Ring has provided this feature on my phone, and maybe if you are in another country or using an iPhone app, the change has not been implemented yet, but on its way.

Thanks Boone,

Yes I am in the USA as well. I have a IPhone. The items I am talking about I circled in red. I can tap and hold on my cameras and move then around. But the 3 items in red it will not let me.

Please let me know if you can move them with your Android Samsung S-5 Smartphone and if so then I can chat with Ring again to let them know that a Android users can do this.

Thanks

@bigtwinharley2011 . . . yes yes, looking at your attached picture, the portion that you circled in red IS the “Shortcuts Banner” with the shortcut icons. That picture helped clarify that we are indeed talking about the same thing.

Yes, with my Android I can swipe left/right on it to display more than three icons, and the “Edit” icon, to change what icon is Visible or Hidden and in what order I want them displayed on the Shortcut Banner.

Since you have an iPhone, as does my spouse, I tried it on her iPhone and discovered two things that I didn’t know before.

  • Yes, her iPhone also can perform the swipe left/right/edit action on the Shortcut banner if her iPhone is logged in with my primary Ring “Owner” email/password log in.

-No, her phone cannot perform the swipe left/right/edit action on the Shortcut banner if logged in with her “Shared User” email/password log in.

Evidently, the ability to swipe/modify or display more than a few Icons on the Shortcut banner section is something only the primary Ring “Owner” can do (logging on with Ring’s Owner email/password). Now, I would think that as a “Shared User” with my Owner’s authorization to control the Alarm system, that she should be able to display the “Alarm Shortcut” icon button too . . . but she can’t. As an authorized “Shared User” she still has the ability to control the Ring Alarm system with her phone App by the normal method, but just not with a handy Shortcut. Since this swipe feature on the Short banner is relatively new, maybe this option for Shared Users was an app code-writer’s oversight and/or a possible future app update.

So, @bigtwinharley2011 , since you are in the USA, your iPhone should have received an automatic Ring App update, and you should be able to swipe. If not, maybe you are logged into Ring as a “Shared User” or your phone app isn’t updated with the latest version. So you can either check for the update using your iPhone’s App manager or re-install and then re-install the Ring App, if you are using the Owner log-on and still unable to swipe.

Hope this helps you  When you figure it out, I am curious and would like to hear why your iPhone could not swipe on the Shortcut Banner.

In my last post, I wrote:

“Evidently, the ability to swipe/modify or display more than a few Icons on the Shortcut banner section is something only the primary Ring “Owner” can do (logging on with Ring’s Owner email/password). @bigtwinharley2011 , And after I posted this portion I realized something. It isn’t an app code-writer’s oversight concerning the “ShortCuts” for Shared Users. A Shared User can do just anything needed (as long as the Owner has authorized it) except the following:

  • Change Device Settings.

  • Add and Delete Users.

  • Access billing and account settings.

https://support.ring.com/hc/en-us/articles/360029632312

And even though my spouse knows my Ring “Owner” email/password information, we both prefer her logged in as a “Shared User.” Because she has a knack of accidentally changing or messing up some device settings, after I get them tweaked just right.

So, it makes sense to me now that as a Shared User, she cannot have an “Alarm Shortcut” Icon because that Icon would be useless for her, since a Shared User does not have access to change the alarm’s settings. She can still change Alarm Modes, but just not change alarm device settings.

So odd something is still not working for me. I deleted the app added it back in. I am running 5.29.1 on the Ring app.

When I swipe left it will just bring up the menu see pic I attached. If I try and swipe to the right nothing happens

@bigtwinharley2011 , That is weird. The ability to swipe & modify our Shortcut Banner works on both our phones. Something is different between us. Our information:

  • My smartphone: Samsung Galaxy S-5 (android) running Ring App version 3.29.1

  • Spouse’s phone: iPhone 7 Plus (iOS) running Ring App version 5.29.1

  • Ring Protect Plan: “Plus” ($100 per year)

  • Ring Alarm SYstem: Professional Monitoring

And confirm you are logging in as the primary “Owner” of the RIng account?

Not as a “Shared User” on the Ring account?

And the location of the account is for the Ring account? (if you have multiple locations)

Other than that, I’m scratching my head. Weird.

Or you can call Ring Support by telephone:

https://support.ring.com/hc/en-us/articles/360036196372-Get-in-Touch

P.S.

Oh dang, I just noticed Ring just raised their Plan rates:

- Basic yearly increased from $30 per year to $40 per year.

  • Plus yearly increased from$100 per year to $150 per year.

Hi @bigtwinharley2011! In addition to all the great suggestions made here by @Boone, check out our Community post from Riley, about shortcuts. It contains in app steps and more information about using the feature, that may help.

Hey Boone,

I chatted again with Ring on the messager. And he had no answer for it. He asked me to call support and I did not have time to call. But I am calling them this morning (Saturdary).

I have the IPhone X and my wife has the IPhone 11pro and hers will not do it either.

Could you send a screenshot of your phone list as to where it shows you the shortcut and in the menu. If you could do it for your wifes phone since she has a IPhone. That way I can send it to Ring support if they say that further is not advilable.

Thanks

Marley,

I looked at the posting and it still does not work on our phones. When looking at the menu on our phones we do not have a list that has shortcuts on it. If you look back in my post to Boone you will see a list menu of what shows up on our phones.

I am calling support this morning to see what they need to do to fix it. I was on chat with Ring yesterday and the guy I talked to first said that further is not available to move shortcuts. Then I told him what Boone told me. Then he sent a link about the shortcuts and asked me to call support so they can look into it and try and get it fixed. I did not have time to call yesterday so I am calling today (Saturday)

Thanks

Tom

Boone,

Thanks for all your help.

Just got off the phone with support going thru 3 people and the answer is. Its a slow roll out and that it has not hit all devises yet.

Not sure how that works but I would think that onces it hits the IPhone’s or the Android’s that all would work. So who knows I told them that your wifes IPhone 7 plus works with it. So I will have to wait and see. You would think after a month that it would be working on all by now.

Thanks again

Tom

@bigtwinharley2011 ,

Ah OK . . . . a slow roll-out. I have noticed that sometimes we here in the USA get a Ring App new feature, and yet our Neighbors in the UK get a lagged, slow roll-out in about a year after us.

Yeah, I was scratching my head trying to figure out what was different between us. I started thinking maybe it was which mobile carrier you have your phone with. Mine is with AT&T.

Well, at least you know the new feature is ‘rolling-out’ your way! Something to look forward to.

I am in the USA as well. That is what I dont get. We use Spectrum moblie. Everyone I have talked to at Ring is like they have not heard of the shortcut feature but then when they look into it and they find the thing talking about the ring shortcut LOL.

I have never heard of a slow roll out I am not sure if they are trying to buy time to get it fixed. The first guy I talked with has a Iphone and it was not on his phone either then he passed me off to another person and she checked her phone which is a Android and she was able to see it on her phone. I told her what you and I talked about and she talked to someone else and there is where I got the slow roll out. I said that really does not make since your wife has a Iphone 7 plus and it works on her phone.

So I will give it a couple weeks before I call back and get to the bottom of it all.
