Hello. How do I turn off the event timeline history option? I had it off and today it got enabled on its own. Now the option to turn it back off is nowhere to be found.
There was no app update. I’m using Ring app version 3.47.0 on Android 12.
I already tried signing out, reinstalling the app, clearing it’s cache and data.

Can you turn off your timeline?
Yes, but this feature is being discontinued incrementally. If you follow the process below and don’t see the Event History Timeline toggle on/off button, you will not be able to turn off the Timeline.
- Open your Ring App.
- Tap the three-lined icon in the upper left-hand corner of your screen to open the side menu.
- Tap Account.
- In the Account Setting screen under Advanced Settings, tap the Event History Timeline toggle.
- Blue shows the feature is turned on.
- White is off.
This means if you don’t see the option to toggle the Event History Timeline off anymore, you will not be able to. You’re welcome to add any feedback or suggestion ideas for options regarding the Event History Timeline to our Feature Request board. I hope this helps clear things up.
I am also not happy that Ring has made the event timeline mandatory in the latest update. This is BS. It is a stupid feature that is really a waste of time getting to the settings for the camera. Whatever marketing dolt that made that decisions needs to go work for HSN. I also am really irked that my only resource to say something is this community board because talking to supporting was as about as helpful as a poke in the eye with a sharp stick.

Also disappointed in being forced to use the timeline “feature”. Makes it slower to get to alerts, and slows down the app in general. A terrible and unintuitive part of the app that appears bolted on after the fact. Nothing makes me want to purchase products less than the removal of existing choices in favor of forced annoyance.
This is a terrible feature and it frustrating that it is not mandatory. Can anyone explain why Ring has done away with the option to shut it off? The work flow of using timeline is frustrating to say the least.
I called an complained and let them know I’d be canceling if they don’t change it back.

Why go through the timeline to get to your Camera Settings? I just click on the tiny settings icon for the camera on the opening page of the Ring App. Sometimes I go through the devices menu to get to the settings menu.
Seems pretty easy to avoid the timeline for your camera.
Terrible. I live in an apartment and don’t want to have to shuffle through a bunch of videos in order to get to the one in the middle of the night where someone was rooting around in my garage. Let me look at the videos in an list format so I can more easily identify footage from the middle of the night.
Forcing the timeline for people that had it disabled prior (most likely for a reason) is pretty lame.
I am officially done with Ring since you insist on shoving the timeline feature over and over again down our throats. People are clearly stating they don’t want it and have been stating it the last few years since you were giving the option to turn it off but have now taken that away
completely. You just aren’t listening and don’t care obviously.
I am going to start looking at Nest or some other company and will most likely be dumping Ring. It was good while it lasted but when it becomes more of a frustration than a pleasure to operate and their refusal to listen to their PAYING customers then it’s time to look elsewhere.
Agreed. Ring’s support was not helpful at all & it’s a shame they got rid of the option to turn it off. It makes no sense, plus Samsung Galaxy users have issues with the mic & LITERALLY the only way to fix it was to turn off the Even History Timeline. Now Ring doesn’t let us turn it off? This is frustrating.
Tell whoever that the Event History Timeline is an annoyance & has made me choose Nest for my next device when my Ring subscription runs out. Why on earth should we be forced to see the timeline in the most annoying way possible when the regular History view is much better & to the point? Nobody wants to drag their finger through a timeline just to get to a certain point. Completely bonkers. Plus, because of Ring’s issues, Samsung Galaxy users have had tons of issues with volume/mic on their devices & the only way… THEY ONLY WAY … to fix the issue was to disable the Event History Timeline.
The timeline feature is crap. Whatever genius that decided to take out the turn off option should be kicked in the butt.
I have invested in several products and I am completely dissatisfied with the EVENT HISTORY TIMELINE. What benefit is this to ring to disable the choice!!! Looking for alternatives in security now!!!

I’ve been trying to figure out how to disable the timeline (once again) for several days. In the past I would change back to the list of events every time Ring would revert back to the timeline. I absolutely hate the timeline feature. It’s nauseating to scroll through the videos and the scroll feature isn’t great, as I wind up clicking videos I don’t want to see or clicking live view. How is this an efficient use of the app? How is this better than list view? Someone please enlighten me. Maybe there are some people who like the timeline feature, but why Ring would get rid of the events list is beyond me, when a simple Google search would reveal a large percentage of Ring users hate this feature! Developers clearly aren’t doing basic research on what their customers actually want. This seems like a very basic option for Ring users - you decide how you want to view and can easily change when you want. The downfall of many companies is when they start changing basic functions/features their customers love AND THEN IGNORE THE PAYING CUSTOMER’S FEEDBACK!!! I’ve spent good money on these products when I purchased and the yearly subscription. I don’t want to go out and purchase new products from a different company, but I certainly will if it means I can get the features/functionality I want as a paying customer. Ring, we aren’t asking for much here. Please listen to your customers or you’ll start seeing customers leave and they won’t be back. I am not someone who posts to community boards like this, but I decided to with the sincere hope that Ring will take these comments into consideration. I’m a loyal customer to a fault, but once a company stops listening to their paying customers, I’m out. Please fix this issue, Ring!!
Every time Ring forced this on an update, everyone immediately turned it off. So what’s their take away from that? Make it non option. What a stupid feature and what terrible way to operate a platform. I know I’m not the only one that’ll be looking at replacing my devices with other brands.
